French post-punk band Versari have returned with a four track EP featuring three incarnations of single ‘Brûle’, including a remix by renowned producer Gareth Jones (Depeche Mode, Einstürzende Neubauten, Wire, Erasure).

Brûle, a menacing bass-heavy album standout, has been reimagined, remastered and shortened, and cuts deep to the heart of who Versari are. The EP also includes a remix by Erica Nockalls (The Wonder Stuff) as well as a School Daze remix of ‘Des Images’.

The evolution of Versari is one of continuous propulsion. Their dark brooding sound, sits faultlessly against the seductive backdrop of Paris’ ‘City of Light’; a contrast of cultures, colliding to beautiful effect.

The UK release of their second album Sous la Peau in November 2020, saw their abrasive post-punk sound, and ambitiously painful literary outpourings, gain admiration from tastemakers and fans alike.

Friday 10th of July we released Versari’s single ‘Plus de Tristesse’. Now this single has a wonderful videoclip!

Friday 17th of July we released Versari’s new album Sous La Peau. We already got some really interesting and enthousiastic responses on this album. Mainly for the single ‘Plus de Tristesse’. Yesterday we released the video for this single, and we’d love to share it with you!

Songwriter Jean-Charles Versari about the single:
“Plus de Tristesse” (No more sadness) is the most contemplative song of the album. It was important for me to have it as a closer. If I think about it I picture myself on a bench in a park, life stories unravelling around, it’s daytime and a mixture of snox and ashes is falling from the sky. No more sadness is a decision, not an observation.

How the video got together:
Jean-Baptiste Deucher and Marie Catry, who both directed the video, are long time friends of us. They wanted people to see us play in a very bare place. I missed some storytelling in the simple fact that we would be playing, so I suggested we had a dimension that would say something. You can see us being the sole audience to our own performance. Ghostly figures of ourselves are around us, and it’s all a reflection on who we are and what we do and what our story has been.

Now the band wants to get touring. “We miss live performances. Also we’ll be happy to get out of France – it is interesting to see how many foreign connections we have with this record, and we have all intentions to make the best of them!”

Last week we signed post-punk / rock band Versari from Paris. We’re gonna have a great music time together! To begin with, they release a new album on Friday 17th of July!

We are happy to have Versari new in our warm family. The band is mainly about songwriter and vocalist Jean-Charles Versari from Paris. The other two band members are from Angers and Rennes. Their songs are in French, we think that’s really interesting and unique for post-punk bands.

Friday 17th of July Versari release their new album called Sous La Peau. Gentlemen Recordings takes care of sales and distribution in the Benelux. The album can be described as a powerful and provocative album. It proudly features guest musician Adrian Utley (founding member of the iconic trip-hop band, Portishead). After ‘Jour Après Jour (2007) and Ostinato (2013) this will be their theird album in 13 years.

The debut single video, Des Images, features objective, subjective and fugitive images. What you see, what you think you understand, and what you feel like you’ve seen isn’t necessarily what it is. This single came out two months ago, and it already has got more than 11,000 views.
