Today, March 10, Dutch britpop band Anemone releases their new album Freebird. Yesterday they celebrated this one with a release party at V11 in Rotterdam.
After years of criss-crossing the country with their debut album Silver Star, Anemone digs a layer deeper with the brand new record Freebird. An album full of psychedelic Britpop with a taste of shimmering folk. On which musical waves crash over each other in extended songs and pointy pop songs that tell about friendships, relationships and trust.
In the Schenk Studio in Amsterdam, Anemone takes this new path, the place where artists such as zZz, Nouveau Vélo, Lewsberg and Amber Arcades preceded the band. Now it’s time to share this new work with the rest of the world. They started sharing in Rotterdam, the home port of the band, with the release party at V11.

]]>Seb Wesson’s new album the Man From the Moon is his first solo full album release. Having cut his teeth working with UK band Munkster he toured opening for the likes of Biffy Clyro and Damien Rice. Then more recently has been working on a solo writing project which began with the Tigers EP in 2017. This follow up is the sum of the last few years of creativity including the lockdown period in global history and draws from Influences such as Elliott Smith, Damien Rice and Tom pett. This new record includes some input from some incredible musicians including Paul Stewart and Ciaran Jeramiah from The Feeling, Iain Hornal of 10CC and ELO, Alex Yeoman from Captain, Alex Richards of Mohair as well as Sinead Quinn, Hope Winter, Stuart Wilkinson and many other superbly talented musicians that are also good friends. Inspired by the band’s recent concerts in previously unvisited countries – Ukraine, Romania, Lithuania and Japan – Born Into The Waves evolves from four pieces composed by guitarist Justin Jones on the theme of love songs from around the world. Following the recent success of acclaimed albums Hunter not the Hunted and (Listen For) The Rag And Bone Man, this album encompasses a new spirit of optimism and liberation in the lyrics of vocalist Simon Huw Jones.

]]>This Friday, August 26, The Anaesthetics will release their debut album 1080. This will only be available digitally at first. It will also be released on CD and vinyl on Friday, September 16.
1080: an album full of idiosyncratic and unpredictable Modern New Golf from Horst aan de Maas (Limburg). The Anesthetics developed danceable elements with orthodox guitar parts and romantic influences, based under the name Modern New Wave.
The band has already targeted several milestones: various major shows in the Netherlands, support acts for Other Lives (US) and Flying Horseman (BE) and the (just not) winning various band competitions (such as Nu of Nooit, Grote Prijs van Nederland).
So it’s time for a debut album. That is why the four gentlemen wrote more than a hundred songs in one year! A job that could only be done with an arsenal of instruments and a high work ethic. Armed with synths, guitars and software, they produced track after track. Not only during rehearsals, but also at home: living rooms and bedrooms were transformed into real music studios. A mega project that is finally bearing fruit, because the ten tracks form debut album 1080 from now on.
1080 will be available on all streaming platforms from Friday, August 26, and can now be pre-ordered via the Gentlemen Webshop. CD and Vinyl will be released on Friday September 16th.

‘Mixed Messages’ is the first single from the solo EP with the same name by drummer and songwriter Guy Pek. The song sounds like a combination of a vintage ‘Beatlesque’ sound with South American percussion and vocals reminiscent of Elliott Smith. ‘Mixed Messages’ sounds summery and cheerful, but if you listen carefully it is full of complexity. So are the lyrics: they deal with the challenges an extreme introvert encounters on the love path.
In terms of songwriting Guy draws inspiration from the late Elliott Smith, though in his production we hear a touch of the Motown era and the use of African percussion, reminiscent of Graceland by Paul Simon. Sometimes Pek’s melodies take a turn, and we can hear the echo of Frank Zappa, and to a lesser degree Steely Dan.
‘Mixed Messages’ was written and recorded in the lockdown. Besides producing and mixing, Pek also played all the instruments himself. The single had been released on Friday August 6 and can now be ordered via the Gentlemen webshop and it can be heard on your favorite music platform!

Stranglehold is the second single from the upcoming EP by dutch alternative rockband Grenadeers. The song deals with the familiar story of not fitting in, being casted out, trying to serve an environment that doesn’t serve you.
The band draws on first hand experience, as frontman Siep van Rijswijk was a highschool dropout and had troubles to find his way within the educational system. Eventually he found a safe harbour in music, and the song reflects the feeling of empowerment this brought about.
A song for all the misfits
‘Stranglehold’ poses critique on how society deals with eccentric people: they’re perceived as an inconvenient disruption within the general course of affairs. But most of all, Stranglehold is a song for all the misfits.
This new track is the successor to the successful first single ‘Single Filter Exit’, which received very good critical acclaim, and which, among other things, spent weeks at the top of the IndieXL Free40 Chart and could count on airplay in England and Australia.

After the successful single ‘Nomad’, synthpop artist L’Asset now releases her second single of the year: “Even-Uneven”. A personal story in a light danceable track.
With ‘Even-Uneven’ L’Asset wants to give the listener a look inside her head and thereby draw attention to neurodiversity and resilience. She shows how she is constantly looking for balance, how she sometimes finds it and sometimes loses it, and how she tries to convert that into strength. As difficult as that is.
“Because everyone is different, everyone is equal. It may seem cliché, but it is a truism. Because it is precisely this diversity that connects us.”
With this track, L’Asset shows the contrast in her head between being completely sure one moment and being unsure the next moment. Between ups and downs, chaos vs. rest and everything in between. Something that is not always visible. With ‘Even-Uneven’, L’Asset shows that it exists and wants to help others.
“I now know that I am resilient and that I can get up again when things are not going well. That is why ‘Even-Uneven’ has become a powerful, but light-hearted single. I hope I can let the listeners know that they are not alone, that they can fully embrace and love themselves. I want to make neurodiversity more open to discussion because we are all worth it.”
L’Asset has managed to pour this heavy subject into a beautiful positive melody, which makes the single immediately appealing. ‘Even-Uneven’ is idiosyncratic, light-hearted and danceable. The single had been released by on July 9th.
