Victories at Sea return in September with a new label, single, UK dates and details of a new album.

The band have teamed up with Dutch label Gentlemen Recordings for the release of their second album, ‘Everybody’s Lost And All I Want Is To Leave’ on January 17^th, 2020. The album is preceded by the band’s first single release in two years, ‘Quiet House’ on 27^th September, 2019.

‘Quiet House’ is a statement return from the Birmingham based three piece. Initially recorded during a two week residential studio visit to the banks of Loch Fyne in Argyll, the song, along with the album, was completed with long term producer Simon Weaver at The Old Whistle Factory in their home town. The contrast of the wide vistas of Scotland and the familiar claustrophobia of the city play out within the song, an industrial rhythm driving widescreen melodies.

The forthcoming album marks a watershed moment for Victories at Sea, familiar to many from their debut album ‘Everything Forever’ and attendant single and EP releases on renowned independent Static Caravan. Having toured with the likes of Editors and The Boxer Rebellion across the UK and Europe, the trio made a conscious decision to retreat to create music of permanence, to step off the promotional carousel and concentrate all their energies on making an album that fully encapsulated their ambition and artistic vision.

Lead singer and lyricist JP White characterises that period as one of the most productive and important in the band’s history to date:

“Ultimately, we made a record somewhere special at a very special time in terms of our own lives. I’m glad we did this, it’s made us stronger people, better friends, and that is all documented in these words, melodies, songs and happy accidents”.

To accompany the release of ‘Quiet House’, Victories at Sea play two shows in Birmingham and London, their first since a sold out hometown show over the summer. Dates are:

De Britse band Victories At Sea heeft een contract getekend met het Rotterdamse platenlabel Gentlemen Recordings. De Britten openden in Nederland al tweemaal voor Editors en toerden door ons land met The Boxer Rebellion. Het tweede album van Victories at Sea verschijnt begin 2020 en gaat ‘Everybody’s Lost and All I Want Is to Leave’ heten.

Victories At Sea is een gevestigde naam in het indie-circuit. Met Editors en The Boxer Rebellion toerde het drietal al langs Europa’s grote popzalen. Dit jaar verschijnen er twee singles, waarna begin 2020 het album verschijnt. Eerder bracht Victories at Sea al EP’s ‘In Memory Of’ (2013), ‘A Place To Stay’ (2017) en album ‘Everything Forever’ (2015) uit.

Gentlemen Recordings heeft veel ervaring met bands vanaf de andere kant van de Noordzee. Kortgeleden brachten ze al materiaal van onder andere The Magic Numbers en The Wonder Stuff uit. Gentlemen Recordings en Victories at Sea kijken uit naar een vruchtbare samenwerking.

Born of Jamaican and Nigerian parents and raised in Ireland, rapper JyellowL has drawn on all three aspects of his background to create a sound and vision that sets him apart on the domestic scene. New single OZONE will be released via Gentlemen Recordings on May 3rd.

Following the release of summer single ‘Medusa’ (a stinging attack at false rappers and the fake nature of the music industry) and a string of festival dates that included a memorable Longitude appearance, he returned to the fray with the first track from the ‘Me and Me 2’ EP. ‘Oh Lawd’ – featuring a guest turn from UK star Aaron U.N.K.N.OW.N. – balances a more commercial sound with that keen eye for detail and lyrical intelligence. The central theme was an appreciation for the fundamental aspects of life but also an acknowledgement that our attention is shifted from those things that really matter when we get carried away with our daily trials and tribulations – events actually aren’t that crucial for our underlying happiness. You can’t keep what can’t be held on to.

2018 came to a riotous close with an Irish tour in support of R&B superstar Nelly, critical acclaim for the aforementioned EP and two stunning shows at Other Voices in Dingle. With further new videos from ‘Me n Me 2’, selection to be part of RTE 2FM’s Rising pick plus a series of festival dates, 2019 will see a series of releases paving the way for his debut album in 2020.

Rapper JyellowL, put uit vele vaatjes. Met Jamaicaanse en Nigeriaanse ouders, en zijn roots in Ierland, weet hij een sound en visie te creëren wat hem scheidt van alle anderen. Het levert hem klinkende cijfers op, met onder andere 20.000 + Spotify-luisteraars per maand en plekken in prominente hiphop-playlists. Nieuwe single ‘Ozone’ verschijnt op 3 mei via het Nederlandse Gentlemen Recordings.

En dat terwijl “J” pas vanaf vorig jaar (2018) bezig is. Er was de release van zomer-single “Medusa”, een aanval op ‘neppe’ rappers en de dito muziekindustrie. Er volgde een aantal festivaldata, waaronder een memorabel optreden op Longitude – het Ierse alternatief voor Pinkpop met ruimte voor liefst 40.000 bezoekers. Hierna keerde hij terug met zijn ‘Me and Me 2’ EP. Single ‘Oh Lawd’ (330K plays), met een gastrol voor UK-ster Aaron U.N.K.N.O.W.N., kent een commerciëler geluid, met een timmermansoog voor detail en slimme tekstuele vondsten. Het centrale thema: waardering voor de fundamentele aspecten van het leven, maar ook de herkenning dat onze aandacht verschuift van dat wat echt belangrijk is. Zoveel moeite hebben we soms met de strubbelingen van het leven, dat we vergeten wat echt belangrijk is. En waar je geen aandacht aan besteedt, kun je niet vasthouden.

2018 eindigde fenomenaal met een Ierse supporttour voor R&B-superster Nelly en lovende kritieken voor de ‘Me and Me 2’ EP. Dit jaar, 2019, verschijnen er een paar singles om alvast de weg vrij te maken voor het debuutalbum in 2020.

Miles and Erica will play songs from their band, The Wonder Stuff, who are taking a short break at the moment. Last year, Miles brought out a comprehensive solo-album with only acoustic tracks, called ‘The Custodian’.

Nederpopband WANTON brengt op 5 april debuutalbum uit

Op 5 april 2019 verschijnt het debuutalbum van Nederpopband WANTON. De band presenteert het titelloze album een dag eerder, op 4 april, in de Springerzaal van MartiniPlaza Groningen. Het album verschijnt via het Rotterdamse Gentlemen Recordings en is nu beschikbaar als pre-order.

WANTON maakt Nederlandstalige popmuziek en is geïnspireerd door bands als Is Ook Schitterend, De Dijk en Keane. De band speelde al veelvuldig tijdens Eurosonic-Noorderslag en wordt met single ‘Onderweg’ veel gedraaid op radiostations over de gehele Benelux. Ook is WANTON een van de halvefinalisten in De Grote Prijs van Nederland 2019 en strijdt het eind maart in de Q-Factory Amsterdam om een finaleticket.

Frontman en songwriter Wim Beukema over de elf nummers op het album: “Het zijn allemaal persoonlijke liedjes die rechtstreeks uit het hart komen. Ik vertel via mijn liedjes meer over mezelf. Elk liedje heeft zijn eigen verhaal, die voor iedereen op een eigen manier te interpreteren is. Door meer over mezelf los te laten probeer ik een verbinding te leggen met onze luisteraars.”

‘WANTON’ wordt uitgegeven op cd en als digitale download. Tickets voor de releaseshow op 4 april zijn te verkrijgen via de website van Martiniplaza.
